Persepsi Akademisi Kampus Terhadap Mahasiswi Bercadar: Edukasi Dan Kebijakan

This research originates from the diversity of perspectives within the university environment regarding veiled female students (niqab wearers), particularly those in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at UIN Ar-Raniry. This phenomenon has given rise to varying perceptions and differing viewpoints among academics, including those who accept it and those who perceive it as having the potential to hinder the learning process. Based on this phenomenon, this study aims to explore the perceptions of PAI academics toward veiled female students and to examine lecturers’ attitudes in responding to the use of the niqab within the PAI learning environment. This study employs a qualitative method, utilizing in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation as data collection techniques. The research subjects consist of lecturers from the PAI Study Program. Data analysis is conducted through four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that PAI academics hold diverse perceptions; some lecturers are neutral and tolerant as long as it does not interfere with the learning process, while others perceive that wearing the niqab during classes may hinder communication. Furthermore, the study finds that there is currently no formal institutional policy prohibiting the use of the niqab. This study concludes that an inclusive and dialogical academic attitude is necessary to foster a fair, democratic, and respectful learning environment that accommodates religious diversity within the university setting.
